When it comes to comfort food, there’s something undeniably magical about the simplicity of cinnamon toast. The warm, inviting aroma of cinnamon sugar combined with the buttery goodness of toasted bread can transport you to a place of coziness and contentment with just one bite. This classic treat, loved universally, is one of my family’s favorite breakfasts and is so incredibly easy to make! All you need is good quality thick-sliced bread, cinnamon, sugar, and butter. Read on for step by step instructions:
First, add the softened butter to a mixing bowl and top with the sugar and cinnamon. Mix with a fork until it forms a paste.

Next, use an offset spatula or butter knife to spread each side of the bread slices with the cinnamon sugar butter.

Heat a pan over medium heat and cook the bread until it is deeply golden and crisp on each side. The sugar will caramelize and create the most decadent, crunchy coating!

Place on a parchment lined baking rack to cool. Be sure not to stack them until cooled or they will stick together!

While the classic recipe is beloved, don’t be afraid to get creative with your cinnamon toast toppings! Here are a few ideas to spark your culinary imagination:
- Fruit Delight: Top your cinnamon toast with slices of bananas, apples, or berries for a fruity twist that adds freshness and texture.
- Nutty Indulgence: Spread a thin layer of nut butter followed by a sprinkle chopped nuts like almonds, pecans, or pistachios on top of your cinnamon toast for an added crunch and depth of flavor.
- Creamy Elegance: Spread a layer of Greek yogurt on top of each piece of toast, followed by some fresh fruit for a creamy contrast to the sweetness!
